Driver killed at Mt Lambert
Officers of the San Juan Police Station visited the scene along with a District Medical Officer, and the body was removed to the Port-of-Spain Mortuary.
Newsday learnt that Martin suffered massive head injuries when the vehicle crashed into the pole.
Parts of his brain remained visible when his body was removed from the mangled wreck of the van.
At Martin’s Aranjuez Branch Road home, his wife Ashaki Salandy told Newsday that the last time she heard from her husband was at about 10 pm on Wednesday. Martin called to ask her if she wanted to go to Movie Towne but she declined. She said that early yesterday, she was told by relatives that her husband was involved in an accident.
When they finally broke the news to her that Martin had died, she held on to her two children Celena, ten, and Darius,13 months old and cried.
She was comforted by relatives and employees of Coffee Express. Salandy said that her husband was a cool person who went out of his way to assist anyone in need. As she stared at a picture of her husband, Salandy said that he will be sadly missed.
