Cops seize guns in Marabella swamp

Led by acting Cpl Roger Alexander, the squad found three guns, an UZI, a sawed-off shot gun, a .38 pistol, a bulletproof vest, resembling those used by the army, and a quantity of ammunition which were concealed in a plastic barrel in a swamp at Bayshore Road, Marabella, around 4 am.

Acting on information the officers, who are based at the Morvant Police Station, went to the swamp, near the old Marabella trainline, and unearthed the barrel containing the guns, ammunition and vest.

The seized items were taken to the Morvant station.

Police believe the guns were being used in the drug trade. Although no one was held, officers expect to make an arrest soon.

The officers were commended by their seniors for the seizure.

Other officers who took part in the exercise included PCs Gosine, Titre, Reyes, Mcmillan, and WPC Des Vignes.
