Serial burglar jailed
Marcano was charged with breaking into Wilks Palace Restaurant and Bar in Palmyra Village, San Fernando. An amplifier, mixer, CD player and a quantity of cigarettes and alcohol were stolen. The charges also alleged that Marcano stole a quantity of clothes from a warehouse on High Street, San Fernando.
Marcano was arrested by PC Steve Persad of the Mon Repos Police Station on March 30. Court prosecutor Sgt Joey Samaroo told Wellington that Persad was on mobile patrol at 12.30 am when he noticed Marcano with a plastic bag.
Samaroo told the court Persad found a screwdriver, pliers and knife in the bag.
Promising to pay for all the items he had stolen, Marcano pleaded with Wellington to fine him for the offences.
“I was influenced by friends,” Marcano pleaded. “It is people I grow up with and they older than me.” Wellington commented, “With your record, giving you a fine does not make sense. You had a chance and you blew it.” Before sentencing Marcano, Wellington read out 19 previous convictions, 16 of which were larceny and housebreaking.
The magistrate told Marcano that he was known by ten other names. He then sentenced Marcano to 24 months on each of the three charges, but ordered that the sentences run concurrently. Marcano will therefore serve 24 months.
