‘Women for Success’ hosts trade exhibition

“Women for Success” will also feature a queen show with young women of the area modelling casual wear and evening gown. For the first time, a Miss Arouca/Trincity Trade Show will be crowned on April 16, at the Bon Air High School, Arouca. The show begins at 3.30 pm.

Two of the contestants in the queen show, Anisa Lara and Cherrise Ashby and businesswomen Khadisha Noel and Lorine Baptiste spoke about the upcoming event.

Noel and Baptiste together with some other businesswomen are the organisers of the event. Baptiste said that this effort came about when a group of business owners from the Arouca area got together and came up with an idea to showcase their products to make the public aware of what was available in Arouca and Trincity. Baptiste has spent many years in dress design and owns the shop “Lorine’s Creation” in Arouca.

“What is different about my shop is everything is made locally. People can come in and choose from a collection of locally designed clothing that suit our climate here,” she said.

Baptiste is looking forward to this event as she has many new items to show the public.

Nail technician Khadisha Noel who manages the beauty parlour, “Loverne Nails Design” of San Juan will be doing airbrushing on the spot for customers. Noel who boasts of doing a perfect design within 15 minutes said that nail designs are rapidly changing as there is a demand for brighter colours and glitter.

Lara who is in her final year at UWI, pursuing a degree in Science and Agriculture, said she is excited about the competition since it is an effort to push women in business.

Ashby who is employed with the Magistrates’ Court in Port-of-Spain expressed her happiness in seeing the businesswomen come together for this event.

“I think this is the beginning of good things to come in Arouca,” she said.

The women are being trained by Marion Innis Richardson of the Beauty Institute while “Effect Avant Guarde”of Trincity is training them in modelling and beauty culture.
