Elections for new UWI Guild

There are three nominees for the post of President including Calixte George Jr, Sandy Latchman and Rodney Jaglal. Current President Fallon Lutchmansingh opted not to contest, since she will be pursuing other endeavours.

Voting begins from 8 am and will end at 8 pm at the JFK Auditorium and the Medical Sciences Faculty at Mt Hope. A third polling station is expected to be the School of Education. The results are expected to be declared on Friday by Returning Officer, Jeremy Medford, the first vice president of the UWI Alumni.

In addition to voting for a new guild executive, UWI students will also be asked to vote for constitutional reform. The first vote to change the guild’s constitution was taken on March 17.

However at the end of the voting which was controversial, there was a 174 tie for and against constitutional reform. There was one spoilt ballot which meant that of the 460 persons registered to vote, only 349 participated in the process.
