She did not mean to kill
Bedeau is on trial before Justice Anthony Carmona and a 12-member jury for the murder of her husband Bernard Bedeau, 41, on or about November 11, 2002. She is alleged to have stabbed her husband then burnt and buried his body near an outhouse behind their Warden Road Extension, Point Ligoure home.
In recalling Bedeau’s evidence, Chatoor said Bedeau tried to get away from Bernard who placed a knife against her neck and choked her. Bedeau tried to get away from him but he followed him downstairs the house, Chatoor said.
Bedeau picked up the knife after he placed it on the sink and went into a room where he kept his tools. “He spun around and came towards her while she had the knife in her hand and the knife went into his belly,” the attorney added.
“Would a normal thinking woman who is happily married, kill her husband, burn and then bury his body?” Chatoor asked.
