MURDER OF US WAR VETERAN

The matter was called again yesterday, but two of the accused were absent.

Private Ricardo De Four was at the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court, while Kevin Nixon is serving a term in prison and was not brought to court.

The other eight accused were present and several of the lawyers in the case were absent.

But Theodore Guerra SC, who is representing three of the accused, told the court he was ready to proceed.

He asked that a date be set for the start of the inquiry.

Mc Nicolls asked that all lawyers be present on the next occasion —April 18 — so a date can be fixed for the start of the inquiry.

Maharaj, 62, was kidnapped in Aranjuez on April 6, 2005.

His remains were found in two barrels. Before the court were Doreen Alexander-Durity, 40, Zion Clarke, 27, Anderson Straker, 32; soldiers Sgt Leon Nurse and Cpt Ricardo Stevenson; and brothers Wayne and Kenneth Pierre, and Kevon De Merieux.
