Digicel dials in Tobago
The outlets are said to have been strategically located with outlets from Crown Point to a hut on the beach at Charlotteville.
CEO of Digicel Trinidad and Tobago, Stephen Brewer, boasted that his engineers had informed him that Tobago actually had better cell clarity and capacity than Trinidad and described the coverage as “clearer than a landline” and inviting any dissatisfied customer to contact him personally.
Manager of the Milford branch, Brian Williams, told Newsday that there had been a steady flow of traffic throughout the store since it opened its doors.
Williams said that he was pleased with the local response thus far, especially in a community where most were sceptical about trying new things. He said other Tobago branches had also seen good sales.
Last Thursday, as a Digicel music truck drove through Scarborough, the company promised better standards and cheaper rates.
Digicel employees, decked in their signature red jerseys, gave out promotional items.
But some Tobagonians expressed disappointment with the initial offers, saying they expected free phones.
