No proper playing field in Sangre Grande

But look as you may a proper playing field for this game could not be found in Sangre Grande.

The Northeast Zonal competitions of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board carded to begin on February 11, did not start until a month later and the Reserve league started in April. The reason for the non preparation of the grounds was the inclement weather. It appears that rain falls only in Sangre Grande since all the other grounds maintained by other Corporations and fall in the geographical area of the northeast zone were prepared.

A report given by the northeast zonal council on a meeting held with the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation revealed that contracts for the preparation of the grounds were given out on January 30, 2006 and the grounds were not maintained by the corporation during the year since four brush cutters mysteriously disappeared from the compound of the corporation.

I cannot comment on the second reason since this is a police matter. I suppose. How can contracts be given out on January 30, when competitions are carded to commence on February 11? Who are the managers of this corporation? The changing of the financial year some time ago was to eliminate these problems. Surely there are managers, because there was a paid advertisement congratulating the Soca Warriors on their success by the CEO, chairman, councillors and officers of the corporation.

Things are so terrible that two teams from Sangre Grande had to travel to Plum Mitan, fifteen miles away to play a league game.

Toco Composite also had to give up their home advantage in the colleges competition. Despite all of this players from this area continue to excel, as did Yannic Cariah and Ricardo Micou who are on the national under 15 team to tour Antigua. It is therefore incomprehensible why these facilities are so grossly under-prepared by people who are charged with this responsibility. My latest check for the double wicket competition with the Boynes brothers is that all grounds will be ready for 2007. We like it so!
