TT’s Glen thrilled at crowd support
A crowd of 27,000 watched the Los Angeles derby game at The Home Depot Centre where Glen’s goals in the last six minutes pushed defending champions Los Angeles to a thrilling come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Chivas.
“We need rivalries like this in the league and need more atmospheres like this around the league,” Glen said after the match.
“It is good to have 20,000 people in the stadium every week,” added Glen, who turned from villain to hero with his two late strikes. He had missed several good scoring chances in the first half before hitting the target in the 84th minute and against in stoppage time.
“After the first half, I just had to keep my head up and keep going to try and get the goal. I just knew it was going to come, it was just a matter of time,” Glen said.
LA coach Steve Sampson was also thrilled with the atmosphere and declared it a big boost to the professional game in the USA.
“It was phenomenal. I think the Chivas fans were incredible, the Galaxy fans and their flags and their chants. I felt like I was in Europe or South America,” Sampson said. “This is the kind of atmosphere that this league has been waiting for. It was truly impressive and let’s hope that other clubs around the league can gain this kind of atmosphere. We are very fortunate to have that here,” added Sampson, a former US National Coach.
In other week three matches in the MLS, the Kansas City Wizards beat the New England Revolution 1-0 at Arrowhead Stadium to stay top of the Eastern Conference, Real Salt Lake (RSL) came from behind to draw 1-1 with the New York Red Bulls, unbeaten Western Conference leaders FC Dallas drew 2-2 with Colorado, Columbus Crew and Chicago Fire drew 1-1, and DC United beat Houston Dynamo 2-0.
