Homicide detectives are investigating reports that inmates of the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca stabbed a fellow prisoner to death yesterday morning.
Doctors pronounced Kevon King, 19, dead on arrival when prison guards took him to the Arima District Hospital after he was stabbed during an altercation with other inmates at about 8.10 am.
Investigators report that King’s attackers had covered their heads with their shirts during the stabbing. No weapon has been recovered.
King, convicted for robbery, had an appeal pending.
King’s sister, who declined to give her name, described him as a “fun loving person” but said he “got mixed up with the wrong crowd.”
“Kevon had many things he wanted to do. He was a former student of Diego Martin Junior Secondary, and I will miss him,” she said at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday.
The autopsy revealed King died as a result of a stab wound to his ribs.
Commissioner of Prisons, John Rougier, said he had to give a report to the Ministry of National Security before speaking with the media.
Arouca’s homicide division is investigating the case.
