Caparo man stabbed to death

Police said at about 2.45 am, Reyes and a woman were at a house on Todds Road, Caparo, when an argument broke out between Reyes and a 26-year-old man. The man reportedly stabbed Reyes to death with a knife, then fled the scene and went into hiding.

Officers from the Homicide Bureau along with a district medical officer visited the scene and the body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre. Relatives of the dead man told Sunday Newsday that Reyes is the fourth member of his family to be murdered.

His brother Kurt George and uncle Lester George, along with Dexter Moze, and Wendy Bethelmy, were gunned down at Caparo in May 1997. The car in which they were travelling was riddled with bullets. The three men were killed instantly while Bethelmy died at the hospital.

Two months later, in July 1997, another brother, Ian “Pigeon” George, was shot dead in Arima.

His body was found in a pine field and Junior Granderson, once described as the country’s most wanted man, was arrested and charged with that murder. He was subsequently freed of that murder.

Yesterday, Bevan George told Sunday Newsday that he is saddened over the death of his brother, but is also concerned about the welfare of another brother.
