Trinity Cross ruling on Friday

Justice Jamadar heard legal arguments for two weeks in the San Fernando High Court. Dr Fenton Ramsahoye QC, who represented the Maha Sabha, argued that use of the Trinity Cross as representing the country’s highest award, contradicts constitutional provisions of equality.

Senior Counsel Russel Martineau, who represented the State in the matter, submitted the Trinity Cross symbol was not even shaped as a Christian cross.

It was not for the courts to delve into the use of the Cross, he argued, because it was an inheritance from our early rule by the British Queen. Justice Jamadar will deliver his judgment at 9 am.
