Atherly unveils new street plans
Mayor Atherly announced the change during the City Corporation Statutory meeting. Cars during the designated hours, will enter Farah Street from an easterly direction via Todd Street.
Atherly told the council the measure will alleviate congestion on Farah Street during peak school rush hours. On a daily basis, there is massive congestion resulting in motorists becoming abusive, in front the San Fernando Government Secondary School and San Fernando TML Primary School.
The mayor also announced that traffic lights would be installed at the corner of Union Road and the Southern Main Road in Marabella.
Regarding relocation of High Street vendors, Atherly said the St James Street location which was proposed for relocating the vendors, had not been approved by the Water and Sewerage Authority.
“We held a meeting yesterday (Wednesday) with WASA CEO Errol Grimes about the proposed site at St James Street for the High Street vendors’ relocation. However, we were unsuccessful in acquiring that land. I would have to continue to look for another location,” Atherly said.
