Brown Cotton casting call
The Brown Cotton Theatre ensemble is looking for actors and stage crew for our upcoming Street Theatre Project and other productions to be staged over the next few months and into 2007.
Auditions and a general open house will be held at the Brown Cotton Tent Theatre, Prince’s Building Grounds today from 6 pm to 9 pm and tomorrow from 5 pm to 7 pm.
The Brown Cotton Tent Theatre is as much a training venue as a performance space and provides a fully working theatre with all the relevant resources and seating for about 100 patrons.
This theatre is offering roles both on stage — as actors and performers — and off stage — as light or sound operators, stage management, front of house and production promotion.
The company is in its third year of operation. Between 2005 and 2006, Brown Cotton’s staged its first musical Rampanalgas Sunrise at Queen’s Hall, followed by their first season of theatre which saw the production of four shows — the musical 50% Blue, the plays Bent and Double Act, and a Carnival production, Mammyshow Pappyshow.
The Brown Cotton Theatre Ensemble is a not-for-profit venture with a community and theatre in education vision.
The theatre’s focus is primarily on the development of the human potential in communication skills, team building, discovery of self, improving voice and movement through the use of theatre techniques, folk and Carnival rituals and traditions. “Brown Cotton sees the process of doing theatre as one way to restore voices, to restore self-esteem, to restore right perspective and relationship,” the company said.
The yellow and white tent located just off the south-eastern corner of the Queen’s Park Savannah next to the public tennis courts and the netball courts is the theatre’s location.
