Jail for robbing schoolboys
A MAN who robbed three schoolchildren of $29 was yesterday sentenced to six years in jail for the offence. Kevin Singh, 27, of North Eastern Settlement, Sangre Grande, was arrested last Friday after three schoolchildren ages eight and ten of the St Francis Primary School, reported that they were at North Eastern Settlement with donation sheets to collect money for a fund-raising event, when they were robbed.
The children claimed that a man said he had $100 and asked for the money they had. The children gave the man the money and waited for him to return, but he failed to do so.
The schoolchildren Jamal Arthur, eight, Kyle Arthur, ten and Aaron De Gale ten, made a report to the Sangre Grande Police Station.
Detectives Francis Harris and Randy Castillo carried out inquiries and arrested Singh. He was later identified by the schoolboys and charged with three counts of larceny trickery. When he appeared in court, he pleaded not guilty to the offence. Magistrate Cheryl Ann Blake sentenced Singh to serve six years in prison.
