Welsh test for Soca Warriors today
Veteran midfielder Russell Latapy made this boast as he spoke on behalf of the Trinidad and Tobago footballers on the eve of the match at UPN Arena, kick off 6.15 pm (12.15 pm TT time).
The match will be aired live on BBC 2 and Channel 4 in Trinidad and Tobago.
“The Little Magician” as he is popularly called, Latapy was among a pumped up bunch at a one-hour session at the match venue under the promptings of coach Leo Beenhakker in cool conditions yesterday.
He said the Soca Warriors will produce the kind of football that will raise eyebrows and leave good first impressions among those who will see them.
Latapy expressed his thoughts and hopes for the coming weeks as the team counts down to their opening match on June 10 against Sweden at Dortmund.
“We need to believe in ourselves as a team and be very confident in our own ability and try to impose the way that we play football, which is with that Trinidad and Tobago and Caribbean flavour,” Latapy said.
Cornell Glen will be returning from a hamstring injury but will start on the bench along with Aurtis Whitley. Silvio Spann is definitely out with a thigh muscle problem.
But goalkeeper Shaka Hislop will sit out this one, resting a sore hamstring but is almost certain to be ready for Wednesday’s match against Slovenia.
Welsh manager Toshack said he expects his team to give the Soca Warriors a good run, despite the absence of international star winger Ryan Giggs, out with an injured toe.
