Walcott’s ‘Steel’ on CD

The songs in this compilation include Mavis John’s renditions of “The Hill, The Hills” which promises to be an enduring tribute to Laventille; and her poignant social lament in ‘Gospel News.’

The recording reflects the variety in MacDermot’s music, arranged by Gene Lawrence ranging from the bacchanalia ‘Neighbour Neighbour,’ the bardic Growler’s ‘Lament’ — delivered by lead act Albert Laveau as The Mighty Growler — and the classical renditions of Maurice Brash, Leon Morenzie and Brian Green. Also included on the CD are the refreshing new voices of Conrad Parris, Marsha Woodley, Dianne Williams and Kurtis Gross.

Steel was staged at Queen’s Hall, Port-of-Spain last year to sold out audiences at both its premiere and encore 20-night run.The CD is sponsored by the Tourism Development Company, Neal and Massy Group of Companies and bgTT.
