UK Women’s Club bids farewell to High Commissioner’s wife

The Queen’s birthday is today. The Cascadia Hotel, St. Ann’s, was the venue for the function, in which Holm-Nash received a picture as a gift from the club’s programme director, Lorenza Robinson.

Robinson said the UK Women’s Club is a charity organisation which conducts fund raising activities year round in TT.

“We have an annual Charity Award in April and the monies we collect,” she said, “are distributed to approximately 35 national charities, including those in Tobago.”

Robinson added that the club’s Charity Award function takes place at the Cascadia Hotel. Come 2007, she said, the UK Women’s Club will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary and the club’s first president was Sheila Stansfield in 1967/68.

She said the total sum of money raised by the club for its charity fund, from 1967 to 2004 inclusive is $2,151,727.

Robinson stated that the club’s two main annual fund raising events are the St Andrew’s Night Gala Ball, which is to be held at Pier 1, Chaguaramas, and the UK Women’s Club Bazaar at the Cascadia Hotel.

There were also on display many artistic items, like round wall plaques and mugs, that were done by Robinson.

In her address to the club’s members, the president, Linda Hayton, called for more volunteers to help the club with its activities during the year.

She said in whatever small way the volunteers can help the club conduct its activities, would be greatly appreciated.
