Takeaway curry flown to World Cup

Members of the band Opposite World have been taken to the football tournament as a reward for getting their latest single into the dance charts.

After watching England play Trinidad and Tobago in Nuremberg on Thursday, they plan to tuck in to a special meal. The curry will be carried to Germany by restaurant manager Abdul Nasir who told the BBC: “We received a phone call on Saturday for a takeaway to Germany and thought it was someone having a laugh. But we were contacted again and they gave us a deposit so we knew it was genuine.” Bath restaurant Bombay Nights is preparing a feast including ramo dakhna chicken, mirchi fish, lamb karahi and Bombay king prawns, together with a selection of rice, naan breads and starters.

The meal is expected to set the band back ?1,600, including the cost of transporting it 800 miles to the hotel, where it will be reheated and served.

Meanwhile England captain David Beckham has highlighted Trinidad and Tobago’s Dwight Yorke as the danger man ahead of tomorrow’s World Cup game in Nuremberg. “He’s always been a threat to defenders in any game — he’s one of the best forwards around,” said Beckham, 31, who played with Yorke at Manchester United.

“He’s one of the great strikers and has been for many years. At United we won the European Cup, the league and the FA Cup — and he was a huge part of that team,” Beckham said adding that victory against Trinidad will secure a place in the second round for Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side, but cautioned that England were taking nothing for granted.

Trinidad shocked Sweden on Saturday by holding the Scandinavian side to a 0-0 draw.
