German Ambassador toasts Angostura
He took the opportunity to present Gabriel Faria, executive director, Angostura, with a framed certificate of the “Rum of the Year Award” which was bestowed on the company’s product Angostura 1919 by Mundus Vini in Germany.
It is coincidental that the ambassador chose this time to visit the company to gain first-hand knowledge of the German history behind its signature product, Angostura aromatic bitters. It was a German doctor who first invented the product in Venezuela and his family brought it to Trinidad in the early 1900s. The ambassador was intrigued by his findings during the tour conducted by Glenn Davis. It actually was the last tour that Glenn Davis would be conducting as he retired from Angostura that day.
The ambassador was presented with the company’s international range of rums — Angostura 1919, butterfly premium white rum and seven-year-old dark rum — which was officially launched at the World Cup parties in Dortmund and Munich, in Germany, on June 10 and 17 respectively.
