Suspect hurt after shootout
The two bandits, police said, will face at least 12 Identification Parades in connection with robberies in the Gasparillo district alone, when they are apprehended. The drama began around 8.30 pm when four men went on a robbery spree and held-up several bars at Duncan Village, San Fernando, Marabella, Princes Town and South Oropouche.
An All-Points Bulletin (APB) was issued and at around 10 pm, the bandits were spotted by Cpl Gopie, PCs Smith and Victor of the Crime Suppression Unit (CSU).
A chase ensued with the officers calling for back up and responding to the call were northern division CID and Task Force units led by Inspectors Daniel and Shah.
The chase ended with the bandits in a Nissan B14 car being cornered near the NP Quik Shop in Tacarigua where a shootout ensued.
When the smoke cleared, a suspect lay on the ground bleeding from the neck. Police said $35,000 in cash, jewelry and a number of cell phones were recovered in the suspects’ car.
The wounded 25-year-old suspect who hails from Harmony Hall in Gasparillo was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he remains warded under police guard.
