Agriculture Minister tours Wallerfield aquaculture facility

The minister’s tour of the facility culminated in discussions with a few of the former Caroni workers who have been granted land for the purpose of agriculture and are to participate in a comprehensive training course on integrated farming at the Wallerfield Fish Hatchery and Research Centre. In addressing those present Minister Narine underscored his Ministry’s commitment to the ex-Caroni workers as well as the continued development of the agricultural sector through technological innovation and growth within non-traditional areas.

This integrated farming course will train participants in techniques on how to combine aquaculture and the rearing of ruminants.

The course will address issues such as pond preparation, types of fish and shrimp that can be farmed, feed production, integrated farming of fish and livestock, and management practices.
