Father’s Day tragedy

POISON victim Adesh Supersad was stable at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Centre (EWMSC) yesterday, and doctors told his mother Seeta his condition had improved.

Supersad, (not Seepersad as first reported), seven, and his sister Lily, (not Lilly), six, were forced to drink Lanate mixed with red soft drink on Sunday by their father Annand at his Vega de Oropouche home in Sangre Grande.

The poison killed Lily and Annand. Adesh was rushed to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where doctors were able to extract some of the poison.

The boy’s condition worsened on Monday, and he was moved to the EWMSC. His condition improved on Monday night, however, and doctors believe Adesh may survive.

Members of the public have been turning up at the boy’s bedside to offer prayers and words of comfort to his mother.

Seeta, who has been at her son’s side since Sunday, told investigators she never would have believed that Annand was planning to kill their children and himself. She said she believed Annand was planning to kill her and felt she escaped because she refused to reconcile.

Seeta blames herself for sending her children to her husband’s home on Friday. She said she believed she should have followed her instinct and severed all ties with Annand.

Seeta has not been able to grieve for her daughter as she is concerned with the quick recovery of her son. The woman said she will never be able to deal with her daughter’s murder since she was very attached to Lily.

Newsday learnt that Annand will be cremated today, while Lily’s funeral is yet to be finalised.
