Moonilal hails Warriors

“I congratulate the Soca Warriors for their heroic performance in the ongoing World Cup.” He noted that this was the first sitting of the House since the return of the Warriors to Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday night.

He hoped that the country would support both the Warriors and the sport of football locally as a whole.

Moonilal recalled that the country has in the past sometimes abandoned our sporting heroes once the initial euphoria at their achievement had worn off. He said he hoped that this neglect would not happen now in the case of the Soca Warriors. Up to the tea-break, the House was surprisingly mum on the Warriors, perhaps leaving the accolades to Prime Minister Patrick Manning who had greeted and congratulated them at Piarco Airport on Thursday night.

MPs showed their support for the Warriors visually, led by Leader of the Opposition Kamla Persad-Bissessar in a bright red dress, offset by a yellow rosette. Minister of Housing, Dr Keith Rowley, and Minister of Works, Colm Imbert, both wore red shirts under their black suits and balisier ties. Junior Minister of Trade Diane Seukeran wore a red blouse.

Nariva MP Harry Partap, Caroni Central MP Dr Hamza Rafeeq and Dr Roodal Moonilal all wore red ties. So MPs showed just enough red to be a simmering of support for the Warriors, ahead of the big day, today.
