MND congratulates Soca Warriors

In a release, the MND said Soca Warriors were the best Ambassadors for Trinidad and Tobago. Nicolas, who said he is a passionate patriot of the Soca Warriors, journeyed to Germany to give first hand support to the team.

He said it was a privilege for him to witness the players live against the Swedes. Nicolas said he was afforded the unique opportunity of interacting with the players at their hotel via the Soca Village set up by the Mayor of Rotenburg.

Nicolas said the players although aware of the reality of going up against the ‘big guns’ of world football, displayed an astounding level of professionalism, humility and gratitude as only true gentlemen could.

He lamented that although the Warriors’ first round exit from the tournament was disappointing to all, the MND was very pleased with their performance on such an international sporting event.

The MND was also high in praise for government’s compensatory efforts as it recognised the team’s success.

Nicolas said he hoped the nation as a whole would derive some sort of lesson resulting from the experience, noting that national success was the greatest tool in fostering widespread nationalism and national pride.

Nicolas reaffirmed his party’s commitment to facilitating national success not only in sports but also in education, science, technology and other endeavours. He stated the MND’s view was that the most fitting tribute to the Soca Warriors would be to provide adequate financial resources and facilities for training and development geared towards ensuring qualification for World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

Nicolas suggested that government in its future plans should undertake more effective marketing strategies through the Tourism Development Company (TDC), in light of any upcoming similar success that could build the nation’s international image.

Nicolas praised Mayor Burgermeister and by extension the German public who he said were fabulous hosts and also great supporters of the Soca Warriors while doing a tremendous job in helping promote Trinidad and Tobago. Nicolas said this should stand as a reminder that when we as a people act as one nation it is far more rewarding.
