Securicor guard shot dead

SECURICOR Security Services guard Manmohan Ramdhan, 46, was shot dead inside the security company’s van which was parked in front of a San Fernando supermarket by three bandits who stole six money bags from the van before fleeing.

Up to last night, police officers with help from sniffer dogs and the National Security Services helicopter were still searching for the bandits.

Police sources said Ramdhan, 46, of Mungal Street in Woodland died on the spot after he was shot through the neck at close range. The murder took place at about 5 pm in front of Len Hap Super-market in Duncan Village, San Fernando.

Ramdhan, was shot minutes after he parked the van in the car park of the supermarket. According to reports, Ramdhan and his colleague Joseph Lallo, 50, pulled up in front of the supermarket to collect the earnings for the day from the proprietor. Moments before, the guards collected money from Dansteel Limited in La Romaine.

Lallo, who was armed, went into the supermarket leaving Ramdhan seated behind the steering wheel. Eyewitnesses told police a man who was standing opposite the supermarket holding a cardboard box, crossed the road after Lalloo entered the supermarket.

The man took a gun from the box and shot Ramdhan once through the neck, killing him instantly. Two other men joined the gunman and they grabbed six money bags which were inside the van. They then escaped in a white vehicle.

A report was made to the San Fernando police and officers quickly arrived and cordoned off the murder scene. A request for back-up was made and the officers were joined by sniffer dogs from the K9 Unit as well as the National Security Services helicopter in a search for the bandits.

A vehicle believed to be the getaway car was found abandoned at Fonrose Street in San Fernando. The vehicle was impounded and fingerprint experts searched it for clues. Up to late yesterday no arrests were made and investigations are continuing.

An autopsy on Ramdhan’s body will be carried out today.
