PARLIAMENT 'HELD- UP'

ALTHOUGH the Soca Warriors are no longer in the World Cup Finals, football hungry Parliamentarians are still very much interested in what is happening at the Finals taking place in Germany.

House Speaker Barry Sinanan had to suspend start of the House of Representatives for 30 minutes yesterday because there was no quorum.

Just as the quarter-final match between Argentina and Germany was reaching its climax with a penalty shoot-out at 1.30 pm, Sinanan found that only seven of the 36 MPs were present in the chamber.

The Parliament needs a quorum of ten MPs to conduct its business. Both sides were equally culpable in this matter. Sinanan apparently aware of what was happening, suspended the session until 2 pm.

Shortly after the match was settled 4-2 in Germany’s favour, the MPs herded into the chamber, many still discussing the outcome of the game.

Sinanan returned and the Parliament began its work.
