Motion of no-confidence against Dookeran

The motion reads as follows:

Whereas : 1) The Political Leader of the UNC has stated his unwillingness to work with the National Executive and demonstrated his inability to lead the party to win the next General Elections.

2) Members of the rank and file of the party have expressed dissatisfaction with Mr Winston Dookeran continuing to hold the office of Political Leader of the party.

3) The National Executive of the party has on numerous occasions brought to the attention of the Political Leader instances of his failure to perform his duties as Political Leader and the adverse effects these are having on the image of the party and its chance to win the next General Elections.

4) The Political Leader continues to engage in actions or conduct calculated to bring the party into disrepute and to adversely affect the party’s chances of winning the next General Elections.

5) The Political Leader is operating a parallel organisation resembling a Political Leader within the party.

6) This parallel organisation is being operated without the approval of the National Executive.

7) The Political Leader has not disclosed to the party the source of funding of this parallel organisation.

8) The Political Leader has not denied that the funding of this parallel organisation is provided by persons and/or organisations intimately (linked) with the People’s National Movement.

9) The Political Leader does not command the support and confidence of members of the rank and file of the party.

10) Members of the rank and file of the party consider that this continued leadership of the party is inimical to the interest of the party and that he has failed as a leader of the party.

11) Members of the rank and file of the party have demanded that the party make a decision to remove Mr Winston Dookeran as the Political Leader of the party.

12) The National Executive is of the opinion that the continuation in office of the Political Leader does not meet with the approval of the rank and file of the membership of the Party.

13) The National Executive is of the opinion that the membership of the party through its units and organs should determine whether Mr Winston Dookeran continue as Political Leader of the party.

BE IT RESOLVED:

i) That the National Executive has lost confidence in Mr Winston Dookeran as Political Leader of the UNC.

ii) That the units and organs of the party be duly notified of this opinion and decision of the National Executive.

iii) That the membership of the party through the units and organs of the party decide whether Mr Winston Dookeran be removed as Political Leader of the party.

iv) That the National Executive send to the Attorneys-at-law for the party all the relevant information and correspondence relating to these matters in an effort for the party to be prepared to act in accordance with any decision which the membership of the party through its units and organs may make.
