Tobago student drowns

According to police reports, around 4 pm, Winston Smart, a Form Four student of Mason Hall Secondary School was swimming with friends when he ventured into deep waters and got into difficulties.

Police reports described the youngster as a poor swimmer.

When his friends realised that he was missing, a search was carried out and the unconscious youth was found and pulled to shore where a futile effort was made to resuscitate him.

The emergency services were summoned and Smart was taken to the Scarborough Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
