Counter charges in SFGH fracas

The charges stemmed from an incident at the car park of the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) last Tuesday in which Furlonge claimed Ryan assaulted him. Ryan was served with a summons to appear next Tuesday in the San Fernando magistrates’ court to answer a charge of physical assault on Furlonge.

Yesterday, Ryan filed his two counter charges before a Justice of the Peace at the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court. The charges allege that violent language and assault were used against him.

The incident triggered protest action in which officials of the Medical Professionals Association of Trinidad and Tobago had called for a total shut down of the hospital through protest.

Ryan confirmed to Newsday that he laid the counter charges and will appear in the magistrates’ court next Tuesday. “I laid the charge because I am innocent,” Ryan said.
