Maryland RC remains closed

The school was closed since June 12, after the body of security guard Claymont Brown was discovered in a guard booth on the compound with a gunshot wound to the head. It was believed he was robbed of his car, strangled and then shot.

The Ministry of Education informed parents that the students would be provided with a shuttle service from Maryland RC to Excel Composite School, Beetham Gardens, from June 21, where they were to continue classes on a shift system, until further notice. However, the shuttle service never materialised.

In a statement yesterday, the ministry said out of the 91 students enrolled at Maryland RC School, 46 had already been transferred to schools in and around Port-of-Spain. Parents of the 45 remaining students are to meet with officials from the Ministry of Education and the Catholic Education Board at the Port-of-Spain and Environs Education District office on July 12 to finalise arrangements for their children.

Menin Walker-Briggs of the Catholic Education Board was unavailable for comment.
