Time running out to buy tickets

As with any mega-sporting event the demand for tickets is usually greater than the supply and while the ICC has developed a system to ensure that many fans are afforded the opportunity to attend the matches, the adage “the early bird catches the worm”applies here.

With the close of Phase One ticketing sales swiftly approaching, the Trinidad and Tobago Local Organising Committee for the World Cup has emphasised the importance of applying for tickets before July 31.

This is when the application to purchase ticket phase will be over. This could mean that the chances of being able to attend some of the preferred matches may not be possible, particularly if there is an over demand for tickets. “It is critical for TT fans to be part of this world sporting event, and only through application for ICC CWC 2007 tickets can this be possible. We encourage fans to apply without delay,” said Chevannes Harrison, Finance and Special Projects, Manager of the Local Organising Committee for the Cricket World Cup.

Tickets for the matches will only be available through submission of an application. In attempting to ensure “a fair and equitable distribution of tickets”, the ICC developed a three-phased ticketing system.

This will allow fans, during this first phase, to apply for tickets ranging from US$10 for a single match ticket to US$300 for the best seats at the Final. Application for tickets went on sale on May 1 and ends on July 31. Tickets for the popular Venue Combination and Follow a Path packages will only be available during this current application phase.

After July 31, unsold spaces will only be available to fans on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“Although quotas have been allocated to Host Venue nationals and Caricom residents, the demand for tickets is great and if the demand for any match, combination or package exceeds supply, applications will be entered into a ballot system, which will determine who receives the tickets.

So without an application your chances of attending the matches will be quite diminished,” said Harrison.

In March-April 2007, it is expected that 51 World Cup matches will be played in nine regional countries over a 47-day period.

Fans are allowed one application per person or two applications per household for a total of four tickets per tournament match and a maximum of eight tickets per warm-up match.

They are encouraged to apply at the following Ticket Centres, where Customer Service Representatives will provide assistance and information on the application process and offer Ticket Brochure.
