UNC fires two aldermen

TWO United National Congress (UNC) aldermen were on Tuesday night relieved of their positions in the Penal/Debe Regional Corporations.

UNC’s deputy political leader Jack Warner who attended yesterday’s last sitting of the Corporation, told Newsday that Ken Emrith and Lennox Sankersingh would not be re-elected for another term.

The decision was taken by the UNC’s executive at a Strategy Committee meeting held at Rienzi Complex, Couva, Warner revealed. The life of the council ends today, but the terms of councillors are to be extended due to the postponement by the Government of Local Government elections.

Yesterday, Emrith told the statutory meeting that he was uncertain of his future with the Corporation. Emrith is the chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Centre of Excellence, Macoya, which is owned by Warner.

He told the meeting: “The power of the political leader has diminished tremendously. I have not been informed whether I would be allowed to resume my duties, so I consider today to be my last with the Corporation.”
