Benjamin, a student of Newton Boys’ RC School, Port-of-Spain will be attending St Mary’s College Port-of-Spain in September with at least six of his primary school friends.

Brown expressed his pride in the young man’s accomplishment as Newton Boys’ was a school the Corporation has supported in many past ventures.

Benjamin’s parents Gerard and Nirala, younger brother Jeremy and school Principal Jocelyn Williams were all on hand to witness the brief award ceremony.

Jesse is no stranger to extra curricular activities as he swims, plays basketball, cricket, football, steel pan, computer games and he loves to read. In preparation for the exam he stated he had not really “beat the books” because relaxation was important to him.

However he had practised for the exam with SEA supplements and he attended extra lessons everyday at his school after classes were finished until the exam. Persistence is of utmost importance to the young genius as he advised all children to “keep working hard, listen to your parents, listen to your teachers at all times, remember what you have to do and aim for the best.”

Beside being honoured by the mayor, the young Benjamin received gifts from his parents and relatives.

Among them was a trip to the United States, an Xbox 360, a guitar from his aunt and a pair of sneakers from a friend.

Describing his son as “level-headed,” Gerard Benjamin stated he was extremely proud of Jesse’s success.

He said since the beginning of his school career his son was “on top of his game” and to show their support, his parents ensured he completed all of his work as soon as he came home from school and provided him with the necessary tools so he could concentrate effectively on his school work.

He believed parents should keep their children in check but also show support and love for their young ones.

He said “apart from being just a mommy or a daddy, you must be their best friend.” His younger son Jeremy is only three years old but the elder Benjamin quipped “we may have another top SEA student on our hands” as he is already exhibiting similar abilities to his older brother.

Jeremy will be attending Newton Boys when he comes of age because it is close to the Benjamins’ home.

Jesse shared top honours in the SEA exams with Jade Pariag, a student of Brothers Road Presbyterian School who come September will be attending Naparima Girls’ High School, San Fernando.
