Baynes cruising to golf crown

The Tobago native took advantage of the home conditions, carding a two-under-par 70, inclusive of an eagle, three birdies and three bogeys, for an overall score of 137, extending his lead from seven to 16 shots over Aldoray Downes.

Downes remained in second place with 153, following his total of 79 yesterday, while Desrond Ambrose and Mitchum Jasper were joint third on 156.

Ambrose shot 76 yesterday while national player Jasper had 77.

Fitz Neptune hold a two-stroke lead over Kevin Williams in the Open First Division.

Neptune shot 80 yesterday for an overall tally of 165, followed by Williams with 167, Suresh Jaggessar 172 and the pair of Ramsingh Boodoosingh and Nicholas Moutet with 174 apiece.

In the Open Second Division, Subash Ranjitsingh leads the group with 172, two shots ahead of Nick Carmona while Stephen Scoon is third with 177 and Pauline Raynor fourth with 179.

Rolly Davis leads the Senior First Division with 166, with Surooj Harripersad 168, Monty Chapman 171 and Joe Pierre 172 trailing while, in the Senior Second Division, Shaffiath Khan (173) has a one-shot advantage over Mano Kisson (174), followed by Maurice Mathura 175, Shabir Khan and Vishnu Galbaransingh with 176 each.

In related news, there were four winners of the “Nearest The Pin” competitions, with Kerville Cowie successful on the fifth hole, Mark Ayin on the seventh, Jordan Stephens on the 14th hole and Mikhail Roberts on the 17th hole.
