Soldier absent at extradition hearing

The three other fugitives - Sgt Leon Nurse, Zion Clarke, and Kevon Demerieux were present before Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls in the Port-of-Spain Eighth Magistrates’ Court.

Attorney David West, who represents the US government said he was ready, but the defence asked for an adjournment. Hearing was adjourned to August 14.

The four are wanted in Washington DC for taking Maharaj hostage, an offence in the US. Maharaj, 62, of Mount Vermont, New York, was kidnapped outside the Samaan Tree Bar, Aranjuez, on April 5, 2005.

His remains were found in the Santa Cruz forest on January 8.
