Training for windball cricket umpires
The aim of the training programmes is to assist in standardising the rules of windball cricket across the country.
In doing so, the association wants to raise the bar by training persons who are interested or involved in windball cricket especially as we make a thrust to improve the respect and support for the game of glorious uncertainty, a gentleman’s game.
The course was conducted by TTWCA Umpires Development and Training Officer Everns Johnson, who is also a qualified senior umpire and member of the Trinidad and Tobago Umpires Association.
He has been adjudicating in windball and hardball cricket games throughout the region since 1973.
Also assisting Johnson were Ashtene Bartholomew, also of the TTUA, Secretary of the TTWCA, David Joseph and TTWCA Assistant Women’s Officer Benjamin Browne.
The programme attracted some 32 persons from as far as Sangre Grande to Claxton Bay.
Participants were subjected to a rigorous three-hour of theory after which they were made to participate in a one-hour written examination.
A workshop and interactive session closed the day’s proceedings at 4 pm. The day began at 10 am.
Certificates of participation will be issued to all those who participated and certificates of excellence will be distributed to those participants who made a pass mark of 60 and over.
The training programmes will continue as the TTWCA team moves throughout the island and even to the sister isle, to assist umpires in improving their knowledge of the sport windball cricket.
