Cars firebombed at police station

The quiet of the overnight shift was broken when officers heard a loud explosion in the station’s carpark at about 1.30 am.

When the officers went out to the car park, on the northern side of the station, they found two Nissan Sunny B-11 cars on fire.

The cars were impounded after being seized from three people arrested in connection with shootings in Las Lomas on Monday.

The shooting suspects, who are in their 20s, were detained and charged on Tuesday and were to appear before a Chaguanas magistrate.

The police believe the cars were set on fire by persons who may be connected to the shooting suspects.

Firemen were called in to extinguish the burning cars. Fire officials returned to the station yesterday to search for clues, although the police believe a flammable substance was placed under the cars. Police Commissioner Trevor Paul was to receive a report on the explosions yesterday.

Cunupia officers expressed concerns about the incident and recommended that a holding bay for vehicles be set up at the station.
