New assistant football coach Monday

Rijsbergen, who succeeded Leo Beenhakker as TT coach, noted, “Jan will be involved both as my assistant with the senior team, like Anton (Corneal), and then he will also be involved with the younger teams.

“He is very good with the youth system and we will make use of him wherever deemed fit in that way,” Rijsbergen added.

Van Deinsen, who last served as head of youth development in Kwara State, Nigeria, was also a technical advisor with Nigerian First Division club Go Ahead Eagles.

During his playing career, Van Deinsen lined up alongside Rijsbergen with Feyenoord and the pair worked together with Dutch team NAC. The new TT assistant coach was also involved with Dutch clubs Top Oss, MVV Maastricht and Vitesse Arnhem.

In related news, Rijsbergen and Corneal will be spending the next few days finalising the Trinidad and Tobago squad for the forthcoming Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-16 Youth Cup, which will be staged here in the twin-island republic.

Additionally, the 53–year–old former Netherlands defender is also setting his sights on the August 9 friendly against Japan in Tokyo.

But Rijsbergen may have to field a mainly local-based squad as the majority of the British-based players are preparing for their respective 2006-2007 season.

“The first thing at the moment is to get the squad for the Japan game,” said Rijsbergen. “We will have a final look this weekend to seal up a couple of the places and Anton will remain here to work with the Under-16s because I think it will make more sense to leave him as he has already been working with the Under-16s and then by the time we get back from Japan, it will be in time for the tournament.”
