TT medal tally at CAC Games now 15

Running out of Lane one, Josanne clocked 55.60 seconds for her bronze as defending champion Daimi Pernia of Cuba again took the gold.

In the women shot putt, Cleopatra Borel-Brown failed to get among the medals as Cuba’s Olympic champion Yumeliedi Cumba claimed the gold while her compatriot earned the silver medal.

Trinidad and Tobago medal hope Annie Alexander who won two gold medals at the just-concluded Junior CAC Championship at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, could only finish a disappointing sixth with a heave of 15.53 metres.

In track and field action, Sheridan Kirk and Jamaal James advanced to the final of the men 800 metres.

James produced a personal best time of one minutes 48.62 seconds while Le Juan Simon also qualified for the men long jump final with an impressive 7.53 metres leap. Marcus Duncan failed to move on to the next stage in the men 200 metres, however. Both Semoy Hackette and Ayanna Hutchinson also failed to advance in the women 200 metres.

Dexter St Louis booked a place in the round of 32 in the men singles in the table tennis series along with Anthony “Sandfly” Brown.

Evergreen and courageous Cheryl-Ann Sankar marked her return from injury by earning a bronze medal in the women 59 kilogramme division in tae-kwon-do.

Sankar suffered a broken leg while competing at the 2003 Pan American Games (Pan Am).
