5 TT youths for UN Vienna meet

VIMUN provides an opportunity for young persons between 18 and 35 years to experience the world of the United Nations and its committee in the form of a simulation conference. It will enhance their public speaking and debating skills and allow them to interact and discuss global issues with other young persons from all over the world.

The delegates were chosen out of a selection of candidates which were short listed from the Trinidad and Tobago UNESCO clubs. The criteria for selection other than the age and passport requirements were that they should have participated in the local model UN and or pubic speaking and debating competitions and should have adequate leadership, research and communication skills.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assisted in the selection process and the Minister of Education and President of the National Commission for UNESCO, has approved their participation. The delegates are Rea Catherine George, head of the delegation, Danielle Lewis, Telshon Mc Wellington, Niann Morris and Adama Wiltshire. They will be chaperoned by Theresa Neblett-Skinner, secretary of the UNESCO clubs executive and a secondary school teacher.

The delegates are now in the process of seeking additional support and funding from the corporate sector in order to participate in VIMUN. The National Commission for UNESCO has provided financial assistance by way of hotel accommodation, conference fees and one airline ticket.
