TT confident of winning Stanford title

“Once we continue to out-think our opponents then we will come away with the title,” said team manager Omar Khan yesterday.

Trinidad and Tobago, led by West Indies opening batsman Daren Ganga are preparing to face Nevis in the semi-finals of the competition next Thursday at the Stanford Ground in St John’s, Antigua.

Khan said the team has been training hard and will play practice matches on Saturday and Sunday.

He congratulated the players for their allround brilliance which put them in the “semis’ with an impressive win over Barbados last Friday.

“Cricket is about who can out-think whom on the field of play and therefore once we continue to play as we did recently we undoubtedly will win,” Khan said.

He said the team played “intelligently” and captain Ganga has also shown that he is an exceptional thinker of the game.

Trinidad and Tobago without most of their stars including world record-holder Brian Lara, Lendl Simmons, Dave Mohammed and Richard Kelly continue to impress in the shortest version of the game.

The campaign got off with an easy win over the Cayman Islands and this was followed by victory against traditional rivals Barbados.

Khan said his team left with the intentions of playing just four matches and returning with the crown and the huge financial windfall.

“We have already played two matches and now we have two more to go before we wrap it all up,” Khan said confidently.

Meanhwile fans are already speculating about an encounter with Guyana in the final.

The Guyanese got the better of Jamaica in a thrilling quarter-final last Friday.

They Guyanese who are being led by West Indies star batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan are also prepraing for their semi-final against Grenada also next Thursday.
