TT’s questionable global image

Less prosperous islands in the region like Jamaica, Barbados, St Lucia and even Antigua are better known abroad. How did we get to be this way? The answer is there for all of us to see: the island is not promoted effectively. The blip of TT, on the global radar — thanks to the Soca Warriors’ superb accomplishment in the World Cup, can be short-lived, if the Soca Warriors fail to make it to the World Cup in 2010. All will be lost, and TT will be viewed as a “seven day wonder;” ending up with a somewhat sullied global image once again.

Before the success of the Soca Warriors, TT was known as the island in the Caribbean that is not safe for tourists.

People abroad, continue to ask Trinidadians if TT is a part of Jamaica. This sentiment has some merit, when taking into account that TT the self-acclaimed: “mecca of the region,” cannot lay a stake to this claim. Jamaica has a very popular cable show in the New York area, geared to show Jamaica in a very positive light.
