TT golfers Caribbean champions

TT finished runners-up in four of the five championship categories and tallied enough points to snatch the overall title. With a combined total of 124 points, they beat Jamaica (117) and the Dominican Republic (108) for the Arthur Ziadie Trophy.

The Dominican Republic and Jamaica copped the major divisional titles, the men’s Hoerman Cup and the women’s George Teale Trophy, respectively.

In the Hoerman Cup, the Dominican Republic’s team of John Paul Garrido, Juan Campusano, Carlos Arias, Marco Midence and Hiram Silfa carded a four-round total of 1,182 to fend off Trinidad and Tobago, who were eight strokes behind in second spot on 1,190.

Dethroned champions Puerto Rico got third at 1,202, followed by hosts Jamaica (1,212), with Barbados (1,223) fifth.

Jamaica emerged from a lively battle over four days to cop the George Teale Trophy for the fifth time, with a 621 total after a superb final round 72 from veteran Maggie Lyn. TT (627) finished six strokes behind in second and Puerto Rico (637) took third.

The Dominican Republic emerged double champions as they totalled a 210 score to capture the men’s Over-35 Ramon Baez Trophy to go with their Hoerman Cup triumph. They finished five shots ahead of TT and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), who shared second at 215.

Barbados won the Francis and Steele-Perkins men’s 50-59 age group title by nine strokes over Jamaica, and the US Virgin Islands (USVI) won the Higgs and Higgs Super Seniors (Men Over-60) by carding a 205 total, 11 shots better than TT.
