Shooting file for DPP
Newsday learnt that investigators have completed the recording of statements related to the shooting but are yet to receive a ballistic report from an expert at the Forensic Science Centre. Sources revealed yesterday that a 29-year-old Coastguard officer who shot and killed Mohammed, resumed duties yesterday. Newsday was informed that the police may approach the DPP to discuss the matter to ascertain what direction should be taken. Sources revealed the DPP can either instruct that the Coastguard officer be Charged with Mohammed’s murder or he can order an inquest. Relatives of Mohammed said yesterday that they are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
The Coastguard is also carrying out its own investigation into the matter. Mohammed was shot in the head last Friday while fishing in the Gulf of Paria with two relatives.
