SACO tunes up for ‘The Best of Mozart’

On August 23, SACO will be hosting a classical concert presenting the premiere performance of the TT Youth Philharmonic. The concert, entitled “The Best of Mozart” will take place at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Sports and Physical Education Centre, St Augustine at 7.15 pm. On that night, 150 string, brass, percussion, and woodwind performers will take the stage and join the world in celebrating Mozart’s 250th birthday.

Admission is $100 per person.

SACO is a non-profit organisation operating without sponsorship. It consists of approximately 50 trained musicians whose ages range from five to 23. Their skills on string instruments such as the violin, violas, cellos and double bases, embrace classical, Baroque, Broadway, movie, Christmas, Caribbean, pop and gospel music.

SACO’s goals include the hosting of annual musical workshops and concerts as well as a tour to the Bahamas later this year. The Orchestra’s ultimate dream is the establishment of a musical school with the provision for scholarships to assist young adults wishing to pursue a career in music.

Since August 2, SACO has been hosting a music workshop at the Bon Air High School, Arouca. It was designed to sharpen and improve skills, techniques and musical abilities of the students who attend. The orchestra has therefore solicited the assistance of ten professional string musicians from the State Foundation for the National System of Youth Orchestras and Choirs in Caracas, Venezuela as tutors.

The workshop will conclude on August 22, the day before the concert.
