Accused claims name mix up

The accused insisted his name real name was Michael Bournes and the name “Christopher Sealey,” should not be on the court record.

However, the magistrate dismissed Sealey’s complaint and told him his lawyer would deal with that issue. The magistrate added that the police identified him (the accused) as Christopher Sealey. Special Prosecutor Israel Khan also rejected Sealey’s claim saying the police charged the individual and not the name. Khan said the State could not wait on the accused to sort out that matter, adding that the Preliminary Inquiry would proceed with or without him. The accused man refused to have a legal aid attorney appointed to him and insisted his family would assist him in retaining legal counsel. Sealey, the last person to be arrested for Maharaj’s murder, was apprehended at Alfred Trace on La Canoa Hill, Lower Santa Cruz.

He is jointly charged with Doreen Alexander-Durity, 40; Zion Clarke, 27; Anderson Straker, 32; soldiers Sgt Leon Nurse, Cpl Ricardo Stevenson and Private Ricardo De Four, brothers Wayne and Kenneth Pierre, Kevin Nixon and Kevon De Merieux.

The case continues next Wednesday.
