Panama, Jamaica, Bajans in CFU 1/4s

In a top-of-the-table Group “B” clash at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, Panama secured their third straight win with a 7-0 rout of Puerto Rico. The earlier match at Marabella saw St Lucia cruising past Anguilla 3-1.

Jamaica also completed a 100-percent record in Group “F” after crushing Dominica 8-0 in the first game of a double-header at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva while in the subsequent match, Cuba demolished the Bahamas 10-0. Barbados and Suriname battled to a 1-1 draw at Brechin Castle, Couva, with the Bajans progressing to the next phase due to a superior goal difference over Suriname (both teams tallied seven points each).

Brett Carrington put Barbados ahead in the 20th minute before Ivanildo Chobin equalised in first-half stoppage time.

Mirco Colina scored in the 24th and 71st minutes to guide the Netherlands Antilles to a 3-1 win over St Vincent in the other fixture at Brechin Castle. Gerfinio Constansia got the other goal for Netherlands Antilles in the 61st while Kyle Dell got the lone item for St Vincent in the 37th.

One game took place at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre, with Cayman Islands spanking St Martin 5-2 in Group “D”.

With Haiti sealing top spot, the Caymans earned their lone win of the tournament, courtesy a pair from Tex Whitelocke (16th and 75th minutes) and one each from Mark Ebanks (fifth), Paul Brown (51st) and Kareem James (61st). Nickaen Zami netted both goals for the French-speaking nation, in the 31st and 64th.

Up to press time last night, Mexico were facing St Kitts/Nevis for top spot in Group “G” while Group “A” leaders Canada were meeting the CFU President’s XI at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet. But no results were available for the earlier matches at both venues — Antigua/Barbuda versus the US Virgin Islands at Arima and Bermuda versus El Salvador at Bacolet.
