Mom denied bail

Candice Lambkin, of Nelson Street, appeared before senior Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar in the Couva Magistrates’ Court. She was not called upon to plea to the charge which was laid indictable.

The charge alleged that Lambkin was found with cocaine in a car along Southern Main Road in Couva. She was charged by Cpl Bobby Noyan attached to the Couva CID.

In making an application for bail yesterday, attorneys Ulrick Skerrit and Daril Giles, who represented Lambkin, submitted to Ayers-Caesar that the accused woman had no previous convictions or pending matters. However, Police Prosecutor Sgt Sharon Corbett, said the prosecution wanted to have the accused traced. Saying that the fingerprint trace was computerised, Skerrit said he did not understand why the police could not have traced the accused while she was in their custody.

The attorney added that Lambkin had a one-year-old child to care for. Admitting that the system was computerised, Corbett said that a trace could not be done overnight. She added that Lambkin’s daughter was with her upon her arrest and the police had ensued that the child was placed in the care of her father.

Attorney Skerrit then requested that the matter be adjourn to Monday, but prosecutor Corbett said it would be difficult for the police to complete a trace by then.

Magistrate Ayers-Caesar then remanded the accused woman into custody until August 30.
